“Transit and Transition: A Bridge to Rapid Change” coloring book

Purple Line Corridor Coalition

(Summer 2024)

Transverse was commissioned by recipients of Healthy Places Seed Grant (The University of Maryland School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation and the School of Public Health). Transverse was provided with several hours of qualitative data in the form of recorded community meetings and comment cards about Riverdale residents’ experience with the ongoing Purple Line construction in their neighborhood. Transverse transformed their voices into a compelling and accessible coloring storybook to use as an organizing tool to strengthen the Purple Line Corridor Coalition and advocate for equitable growth for all who live, work, and invest in the corridor. To conclude the project, Transverse facilitated an artist talk, community read-aloud, coloring time, and small group discussion around attendees’ experiences with the Purple Line and their impressions of the coloring book.
